Description of Activity

Presented a paper at the conference.

Abstract to paper: Connection between the reality of the architectural industry with education is now a significant issue for Schools of Architecture because of the huge diversity of work undertaken by architectural practices, large and small. In this proposal, Module Coordinator Rebecca Galbraith examines the role of an architect using a live University of Portsmouth building as a base for an adaptive reuse brief in collaboration with University of Portsmouth Estates Department. The proposal draws on findings from the investigation of co-creating this learning canvas with MArch and Degree Apprenticeship students which uses academic investigation to create real world CO2 saving for the University estate. The paper argues that pressure from students can create a catalyst for change in the environment that they inhabit and concludes by suggesting that modules have the potential to have a CO2 budget in an environment of fiscal challenge.
