Description of Activity

Sally Goldsmith, a Sheffield writer, activist, and local historian, was inspired by my 2014 monograph to create a walking performance, 'Boots, Fresh Air, and Ginger Beer', that dramatically explored the history of the Guild of St George in the Totley area. Sally was regularly in touch with me to discuss the relevance of my research to her performance, and because she has been extending local history researches into major figures in the Guild's history in the nineteenth century. Sally's performance reflected the fact that my monograph opened up a large amount of new empirical research data on the Guild in Sheffield and considerably enriched our understanding of its history.
