In this interactive Education event with University of Portsmouth, we will be joined by Dr Martin Hoskin, Senior Teaching Fellow in the School of Education, Languages and Linguistics at University of Portsmouth, who will present The Purpose of Education: What Are Schools Really For?

What is education really for – social mobility, economic success, personal growth, or something more complex? And who actually benefits from the way our education system works?

This engaging, discussion-based session explores some of the biggest questions about education and its role in society. Drawing on a range of influential thinkers and perspectives, we’ll connect theory to real-world issues such as inequality, the hidden curriculum, student identity, and education policy.

Designed to spark curiosity, the session complements A Level Sociology and related subjects while also opening up wider ways of thinking about education at university level.
