In our introductory presentation we discuss the basic tenets of critical and intersectional psychologies. We describe their relations to mainstream social psychology, their various roots and some of the fields of their application. Our purpose is to invite the participants to engage with a discussion on these approaches and their potential for informing a larger portion of work in social psychology than they currently do. We conclude with an overview of the presentations in the panel that follow, and by outlining some of the ways in which these approaches have been present on our own work.
