Greetings From Creepy Futures: Wish you were(n’t) here

Description of Activity

What if everything in Portsmouth was designed to be creepy?
Step into Portsmouth in the year 2126 and imagine a future where unsettling technology has become part of everyday life. In this playful Speculative Design workshop, you’ll explore what we value, what we might be willing to surrender, and how creativity can help us imagine the future city we want together.

Using storytelling, drawing and rapid prototyping, participants will create design fictions inspired by imagined future technologies. Working individually and collaboratively, you’ll develop speculative ideas that challenge assumptions about technology, society and everyday life through humour, creativity and collective imagination.

There will also be an opportunity to transform your ideas into mixed-media artefacts using Generative Artificial Intelligence, with selected creations contributing to a collection of 3D-printed sculptures that will be presented at a follow-up public event.

This workshop is part of COMMUNAL, Aspex’s seasonal programme supporting Portsmouth’s communities through creativity, collaboration and shared experiences. By providing space, resources and opportunities to connect, COMMUNAL aims to strengthen the city’s creative ecology, build meaningful relationships across diverse communities, and support participation, learning and artistic growth.
