Description of Activity

Presenting the events, characters and plot of Shakespeare's Hamlet from the perspective of two of the play's minor characters, this film version of Tom Stoppard's acclaimed tragicomedy is a witty, poignant and irreverent example of Shakespearean appropriation at its best. Audiences will delight in and be moved by a 'Shakespearean Laurel and Hardy' who face existential dilemmas akin to those of Samuel Beckett's Vladimir and Estragon in Waiting for Godot. Introduced by Dr Páraic Finnerty, Reader in English and American Literature at the University of Portsmouth. The film is shown as part of the Much Ado About Portsmouth: Shakespeare Festival to mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death.
