Description of Activity

This session introduced FE practitioners to research-informed approaches that strengthen relational pedagogy, psychological safety and purposeful challenge in classroom settings. It examined how safety, belonging and co-agency support attention, motivation and intellectual risk-taking. The session drew on UK evidence from the Education and Training Foundation and wider literature on relational teaching, affective cognition and learner engagement. Participants explored reflective prompts, paired activities and a short relational practice audit to consider how everyday interactions shape learner confidence and participation. The session formed part of BCoT’s ongoing professional development offer and supported colleagues to design inclusive learning environments where students can engage with stretch and challenge in ways that preserve dignity and sustain effort.
