Description of Activity

A professional development class for Korean artists which included a Funding Lecture and Portfolio reviews, organised by Vera Hadzhiyska and Anbuh (Outhouse, Seoul)

The in-person events took place in Seoul, South Korea in April 2024. The aim of the events was to support the professional development of Korean artists and introduce them to UK and international professional opportunities in order to encourage and aid the introduction of more Korean artists into the UK art scene, thus popularising Korean art and visual culture.

Funding Lecture:
This lecture led by Vera Hadzhiyska introduced Korean artists to the variety of opportunities and open calls for funding, exhibitions, and art residencies in the UK and internationally. The talk provided advice on finding opportunities and writing funding applications, building confidence in talking & writing about one’s work and building a set of skills which would support Korean artists to apply for international opportunities.
Led in English.

Portfolio Reviews:
In addition to the funding lecture, there were portfolio reviews for Korean artists led by Vera Hadzhiyska and Anbuh. The portfolio reviews gave artists the opportunity to showcase and discuss their new and existing artworks and projects, talk about their professional aspirations and desired career development, discuss and get feedback on funding applications. Vera and Anbuh provided feedback to support the professional development of the participating artists, providing advice regarding both the local Korean art scenes and the UK.

Led in both Korean and English.

*The event was organised with the financial support of the British Korean Society.
