Presented 'Biophilic Design: Exploring Nature-Based Parameters for Health, Well-being, and Sustainability'
Biophilic design have received extensive attention in architecture and interior design, especially in response to rising environmental challenges and rethinking design of buildings post-pandemic. In addition, daily opportunities to experience nature have been shown to positively impact our health and well-being (Browning & Ryan, 2020; Kahn & Kellert, 2002). However, questions remain regarding conceptualising and addressing ‘nature’ in practice. This presentation focuses on ten biophilic design patterns under two categories of ‘nature in the space’ and ‘natural analogues.’ It presents case studies (and examples) of biophilic design in educational spaces and work places, and discusses the impacts on sustainability and well-being.
