Presentation: We See You - Understanding Armed Forces, Veteran and Blue-light Communities

Description of Activity

This activity involved the design, coordination and facilitation of a university-led civic engagement event that brought together educators, service-connected individuals, community organisations and institutional leaders. The event was structured as a facilitated conversation rather than a formal conference, integrating lived experience, research evidence and professional practice.

The activity focused on raising awareness of the educational experiences and transition challenges faced by serving personnel, veterans, spouses, partners, children and wider families. It created a shared space for dialogue around belonging, recognition and institutional readiness, with specific attention to implications for teacher education, curriculum design and professional learning.

The activity positioned the University of Portsmouth as an anchor institution within a service city and established We See You as a sustained programme of civic engagement and inclusive educational practice.
