Description of Activity

Co-organised seminar and discussions with Prof. June Barrow-Green, recipient of the Royal Society Wilkins-Bernal-Medawar Medal for work on the historical representation of women in mathematics, including giving her prize lecture - open to staff, Postgraduate Research Students, and undergraduates. Included cross-faculty participation from staff in our Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI) who have an interest and expertise in cultural history and the representation of women. Followed by a discussion with the speaker, our staff, CCI colleagues, female PhD students and Postdocs, leading to an inspiring discussion and suggestions of new research areas to explore (in particular the historical role of women in mathematics in industry, including the role of "human computers".
