Description of Activity

Invited presentation to the Veterans Studies Association (VSA) international colloquium series. The presentation shared findings from doctoral research exploring military veterans' experiences of Initial Teacher Education during military to civilian transition. Drawing on Bourdieu's concepts of field, habitus, capital and symbolic violence, the presentation examined how veterans negotiate professional identity, recognition and legitimacy as they move between military and educational fields. The session concluded with discussion involving an international audience of veteran studies scholars and practitioners.
