    Description of Activity

'The Musical Films of Harry Warren: You’re Getting to be a Habit with Me'

Time Magazine once described Harry Warren as ‘the king of…the Hollywood songwriter incognitos…more songs in the Hit Parade than Irving Berlin himself’.
This is a fitting quote to kick off this talk about American song standards and their composers. Harry Warren was born to Italian immigrants and like Irving Berlin came from NY. Unlike Berlin, however, he was a song composer mainly for film. 21 of his songs reached #1 in the US Hit Parade and he won three Oscars for best song, in 1935, 1943 and 1946.

The talk includes a survey of this talented man’s work – with songs like You’re Getting to be a Habit with Me, Lullaby of Broadway, The More I See You and Chattanooga Choo Choo, the list goes on and on. The talk also includes YouTube clips with guest stars such as Ruby Keeler, Carmen Miranda, Alice Faye and Fred Astaire!
