Star & Crescent is an independent news, culture and commentary website focusing on the city of Portsmouth. Its aims are to: Offer timely, daring, investigative and well-researched journalism as an antidote to the conformist values and public relations dross that now seem to dominate the mainstream media Think critically and thoroughly about our city’s past, present and future Inspire debate about the real issues that affect the people of Portsmouth Give local communities a voice, particularly marginalised, under-represented and disadvantaged communities and neighbourhoods Hold local public bodies to account Increase political awareness and involvement Give voice to Portsmouth’s varied political perspectives Raise the profile of Portsmouth as a creative and cultural city S&C received a £6,500 NESTA grant to assist with boosting its online profile.
