Description of Activity
Moving towards a circular economy requires system changes from Take-Make-Waste to designing in a scenario that adopts attractive alternatives to reduce plastic consumption, reuse plastics already within the life cycle, ensure proper recycling of plastic waste and recovery of plastic products and materials. All in responsible ways that ensure a ‘zero burden shift’ i.e. ensuring the alternative is not also harmful to the environment or human health.
There are various new methods and technologies being developed to tackle the plastic problem. From the use of enzymes to break down plastics in bottles or clothing to re-use as a new plastics product, to substituting plastics within packaging with environmentally-friendly alternatives, and using recycling methods to promote sustainable fashion. There are countless ways we can drive and develop solutions to the plastic problem towards sustainable transitions.
