Time and Temporality Workshop

Description of Activity

The aim of this workshop was to bring together researchers from across the Humanities whose work focuses on, and is informed by, concepts of time and temporality. The workshop featured four papers and a concluding round table discussion to examine the problematic of time and temporality. Discussion ranged across a number of academic disciplines – history, literature, philosophy and sexology – interconnected by their investigation and analysis of contemporary understandings of time and temporality. We hope to use this workshop to establish a broader research network on time and temporality across the Humanities. Speakers: Professor Mark Currie (Queen Mary, University of London) "Some Unexpected Things about the Future Anterior" Dr Jana Funke (University of Exeter) "Temporal Mobility: Rethinking Modernist Sexualities" Dr Joseph Tendler (Independent Researcher) "'Results of the disaster of not studying them strew the historiographic Landscape': Historians and Historical Time" Michael O’Rourke (Independent College Dublin) "Techniques and Time: Messianicity in Contemporary French Philosophy"
