    Description of Activity

    Project Office: Wedgewood Rooms

This project sees BA3 Interior Architecture and Design students working with a local business of significant cultural value to the city of Portsmouth with the aim of increasing the buildings identity as a 'venue'. The Wedge, is a Live Music venue and has seen bands with both national and international significance, including Oasis, Frank Black, Albert Hammond, JR and The Brian Jonestown Massacre. The venue also provides a platform for the development of local talent that is integral to the reputation that it has developed. The organisation has developed over time as a reaction to need and opportunity. For example there is frequently during the day small arts markets and showcases. The organisation also supports the wider cultural ecosystem in the city by providing studio space to arts practitioners who in turn become ‘artists in residence’. This is currently ‘My Dog Sighs’. Charitable organisations also find a home in the Wedgewood rooms, with respect to events with the aim of raising money for charitable causes. The proposals will potentially inform the future direction of the business.
