September 17 marks the 84th anniversary of the Soviet invasion of Poland. A little more than two weeks after Germany invaded from the West, the Soviet foreign Minister Vyacheslav Molotov said that Poland and its government had ceased to exist”, leading to the seizure of a mass of Polish territory up to the Vistula.” Similarities between 1939 and the 2022 Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine are numerous.
