Finding solutions to the plastics crisis

Press/Media: Expert comment

Description

Some plastics take more than 400 years to break down, and around 11 million metric tons of plastic ends up in our ocean every year. Half of all plastic becomes waste within a year of being made, yet most isn’t recycled. Our planet is suffocating in plastic. Radical action is needed to halt this trend and limit the damaging consequences of plastic pollution on our health and the environment.

We need solutions to the world’s plastic problem. That’s where the University of Portsmouth’s Revolution Plastics programme comes in. We take a look at two very different projects to tackle plastic pollution that rely on collaboration and a determination to avoid a ‘one size fits all’ approach.
