Description

This episode of The Blindboy Podcast offers a vivid public-facing illustration of our research on autistic flow, drawing directly on the idea that flow can be an important source of autistic wellbeing, regulation and psychological nourishment rather than simply an intense form of concentration. He explores how deep, sustained engagement, repetitive activity and immersion can support emotional and sensory regulation, while also reflecting on the difficulties of being pulled out of flow and the importance of environments that allow autistic people predictability, autonomy and uninterrupted engagement. In doing so, the episode brings our non-pathologising account of autistic flow to a wide audience, reframing experiences often understood through deficit-based concepts such as ‘special interests’ or repetitive behaviour as potentially adaptive and wellbeing-enhancing ways of being.
