The Centre of Excellence for Heritage Innovation CoE-HI is a multidisciplinary research and innovation entity at the University of Portsmouth. The Centre has communities at the heart of its research and innovation activities, and promotes cross- and interdisciplinary approaches to preserving both tangible and intangible heritage to serve and for the benefit of communities, policy-makers and organisations. The CoE-HI brings together researchers and professionals from across the University to tackle key issues related to community-led heritage identification, interpretation conservation, and development, and encourages traditional, creative and innovative methods and tools to protect and preserve tangible and intangible heritage in collaboration with communities and stakeholders. The CoE-HI commits to balance inclusive approaches, research and innovation best practice to preserve and promote wider cultural heritage. Aiming to be positioned as a leader in the sector, it will foster collaborations among scholars, students, and communities, address social, digital, scientific, and environmental facets of heritage, to attain international acclaim for innovative approaches. Aligned with the University of Portsmouth Civic Agenda, it aims to enhance outputs, generate income, and collaborations, nurturing societal contributions and student experiences; it aims to amplify community engagement, foster partnerships, and empower communities through research, education, and innovative heritage practices, enriching local identities and global understanding.
