Organisation profile

Organisation profile

Our world is changing at an incredible pace, fuelled by new technologies, innovative management structures and new ideas. The Strategy, Enterprise and Innovation (SEI) subject group is focussed on developing ideas that strengthen organisations – from entrepreneurial start-ups to national governments – and help them grow.

We work with major organisations around the world, including the Royal Air Force (RAF) – and for the past 7 years, we've helped the RAF develop new leadership and technological strategies to deal with emerging threats.

Much of our research is conducted in collaboration with businesses and other organisations and applied to the real business issues they face. Our research activities are led by four renowned Professors in their fields: Martina Battisti, David Pickernell, Paul Trott and Diego Vasquez-Brust.

Recent projects have used an applied research approach with several firms from the food industry to develop new products – including new oat-based food products and new food packaging made from plant waste. We're also researching sustainability education in Argentina, which is influencing the national curriculum, and studying the challenges and opportunities facing female entrepreneurs in the European Union (EU).

Our research and innovation work has been funded by organisations and institutions including the EU, the Federation of Small Businesses, and ANZAM-BAM. We've also worked with many companies on successful Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs).

Our areas of expertise include:

  • Innovation management
  • Small business and entrepreneurship
  • Sustainability and business
  • Risk and security management
