Biography

I am the Course Leader for the BSc Music and Sound Technology and the BSc Music Technology courses.

I joined the University of Portsmouth full-time in 2004 and have been lecturing on the BSc Music and Sound Technology course since it's inception.

I am the Admissions Tutor for the School of Creative Technologies as well as the school's liaison for the university's partner institution - ICP - International College Portsmouth.

I am an AVID certified Instructor in Pro Tools.

I have been a guitarist for almost 40 years and I also enjoy creating electronic music.

Teaching Responsibilities

I teach across several disciplines within Music & Sound Technology and on several courses - BSc (Hons) Music and Sound Technology, BSc (Hons) Creative Media Technologies, BSc (Hons) Digital Media & BA (Hons) Media and Digital Practice. I am module coordinator for Music in Context, Music Business Practice, Laptop Music Performance, Sound Application & Key Issues in Contemporary Music Studies. I have previously taught modules on Studio Theory & Practice, Studio Recording, Advanced Music Software Techniques, Game Audio, Analysis of Music Software and Radio Production

Research Interests

My research interests are in the areas of Ethnomusicology, Genre Theory, Taxonomy/Folksonomy/Ontology and the technological issues surrounding those areas.

I have also been particularly focussed on Nordic jazz/electronic music crossovers for a number of years.
