Musical Composition, Music and Technology, Creative Technologies.
Head of School of Creative Technologies at the University of Portsmouth.
I am an active composer and researcher who is particualrly interested in the interaction between technology and musical composition.
I studied for an undergraduate degree at King's College London and the Royal Academy of Music before taking a Masters in Composition and Analysis at King's. After spending several years working in London as a freelance composer, musician and teacher I moved to Cardiff where I studied for a PhD in musical composition.
I then taught for the Open University and Cardiff University before moving to UWE Bristol where I ended up as Associate Head of Department for Creative Technologies within the CSCT (Computer Science and Creative Technologies). During my time at UWE Bristol I was also the programme leader for BSc Creative Music Technology and worked as Deputy Director of the Centre for Performing Arts where I conducted the UWE Bristol Symphony Orchestra and other ensembles.
My research consists of musical composition, musicology and working as the director of Arcomis (Arts Commissioning) ltd - a company that I founded in 2007 that promotes new music by enabling its commissioning, hosting an online collection of new music scores and staging international music festivals. Full information can be found at www.arcomis.com.
I am particularly interested in the interaction between technology and creativity, specifically with regard to contemporary classical musical composition.
I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a keen amateur cyclist.
My personal website can be found at www.adrianhull.co.uk.
