Personal profile
Summary
I am a Senior Lecturer in Strategy for the Strategy Enterprise and Innovation (SEI) subject group in the Faculty of Business and Law. I’m also a member of the British Academy of Management and fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
I have expertise in strategic thinking under uncertainty from the perspective of process and practice theory. This I have used to contribute to management development programmes and workshops for a range of external organisations in the public sector as well as the maritime and health industries.
Biography
I was appointed as a lecturer in strategy at the University of Portsmouth in 2011 before becoming a senior lecturer in 2012. In 2015, I was co-chair of successful British Academy of Management Conference hosted at Portsmouth. I was appointed as the Conference Lead for the Faculty of Business and Law in 2017 with responsibility to assist in the bidding and hosting of conferences. Since 2017, we have seen an increase in the number of conferences being hosted by the Faculty.
Research Interests
My general research interest is in strategic thinking under conditions of uncertainty. I have a particular interest in drawing insights from philosophy and sociology (especially process and practice theories) to shine a critical light on the taken for granted aspects of strategic thinking.
My current research interests include:
- The impact of uncertainty on strategic thinking and practice
- Emergent strategy making
- The ethics of uncertainty
- The concept of synergy as an underpinning of corporate strategy
Teaching Responsibilities
I teach on a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate modules in the area of strategic management across the Faculty of Business and Law, including Strategic Management and Corporate Strategy. I am also module coordinator for Strategy Development in Uncertainty and Strategic and International Management.
Media Availability
I am happy to take calls and emails from the media on my research, and am aware of the needs to respond to journalists in a timely manner. Please contact me directly on either [email protected] or 023 92 844429.
