Personal profile

Biography

After graduating, with Ba(Hons) Business Studies degree, I gained extensive experience in Human Resource Management in Private and Public Sector organisations.  I worked for Hays Plc for over ten years, as specialist in recruitment, in roles including Regional, Business Development and Training Manager.  Before moving into a career into higher education in 2005 I completed my MSc and CIPD at the University of Portsmouth.

Currently, my main role facilitates further learning design among teaching and support teams; generating innovative responses to the changes in Higher Education in line with the University's Digital Success Plan 2021-2025.  This role transition was supported through my extensive experience using an active blended learning approach on courses and modules and collaborating with employers to reap the benefits of work-integrated learning.  I aim to support the continous development of inclusive teaching practices for future learners.

Previously, I sucessfully led and launched the Degree Apprenticeship buisness programme at the University of Portsmouth from 2016-2021as Programme Director for Degree Apprenticeships (Business and Law faculty).  After launch, my work involved continuously developing existing apprenticeship courses and modules with our team from initial interest to End Point Assessment.  This required working with a diverse set of stakeholders; apprentices, employers, teaching teams, support teams and professional bodies.  This position was built on a platform of experience; knowledge and skills after five years of leading on the HR courses (success evident by course analytics) and accumalting over 15 years of teaching experience within the Business School.

Research Interests

From previous training experience within the industry, recent teaching experience and gaining a PgC LTHE my research interests lie in student centred learning, work-integrated learning and blended and connected approaches.  Hence, the Degree Apprenticeship Programmes at the University of Portsmouth and as a member of the CABS National Degree Working Group opened opportunity for me to explore and research further potential best practice which will benefit both apprentice and their stakeholders.
