Summary

I am a Senior Lecturer in Naval History at the Faculty of Business and Law based at the RAF College, Cranwell. I am also General Editor of the Navy Records Society. 

At Cranwell I have taught on a variety of officer training courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels since 2006, whilst also undertaking administrative and managerial roles. 

I am completing a three volume series of documents on The Fleet Air Arm in the Second World War for the Navy Records Society; the first two volumes being published in 2012 and 2018. I have co-authored a book on air power in the maritime environment during the World Wars, whilst also producing refereed articles and book chapters. 

In my role for the Navy Records Society, I liaise with editors of volumes and the publisher in supervising the production of the Society's annual volume.  

 

Biography

In 2005 I joined the Air Power Studies Division of the Defence Studies Department, King's College London as a Lecturer. I transferred to the University of Portsmouth when it won the academic contract at RAF Cranwell in 2012. I was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2014 and was Course Manager of the Initial Officer Training Course between 2014-2017. I briefly undertook the role of Assistant Director (Academic) in 2017. 

In 2011 I became a Councillor of the Navy Records Society. Since 2013 I have been the Society's General Editor with responsibility for its prestigious series of volumes. 

Research Interests

My research focuses on naval history and British defence policy. Current research interests include maritime air power, naval logistics during the Second World War and British defence policy East of Suez in the post-war period.
