Biography

Prior to working for the UoP I was a Senior Probation Officer (SPO) for Hampshire Probation Trust and HIOW CRC FOR five years. Role included: Chairing Multi-Agency Public Protection meetings (MAPPAs), managing the Integrated Offender Management (IOM) team, staff supervision, performance management and practice oversight and delivering staff training.  I was also an Internal Assessor for Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Probation (HMIP) and for Investors in People (IIP).

In 2006 I became a Probation Officer.  Role included: managing a wide spectrum of cases including IOM, MAPPA, extremist offenders, sex offenders, and those sentenced under life sentences and the public protection provisions.  I was also the Multi-agency risk assessment conference (MARAC) lead and I had experience of working in a Court team.  I also qualified as a programmes facilitator.

Teaching Responsibilities

I teach on all aspects of the Professional Qualifcation in Probation (PQiP) programme including:  Induction, Reflective Practice, Core Processes of Change, Critical Issues in Risk Assessment, Public Protection and the Work based learning project (WBLP).  These modules include teaching a wide range of relevant and recent research, including trauma informed practice, desistance, rehabilitation, theories of change, effective practice, compliance, denial, emotional literacy, diversity, intersectionality, effective practice for specific groups of offenders (sexual offenders, domestic abuse, extremist and women).  I am also a personal tutor for PQiP students and supervise PQiP students for their work based learning project.  I am also involved in all the L5 Knowledge Modules:  Criminal Justice Systems, Crime and Criminal behaviour, Punishment of Offenders and Rehabilitation of Offenders. 

I also teach on the full time undergraduate campus modules.  Including: 

L4 Criminal Justice: covering all agencies in the CJS, prisons & mental health. L5 Community Justice: exclusionary and inclusionary approaches, restorative justice, the Probation Service and victims.  L6 Political Extremism.

I am the Module Co-ordinator:  for Community Justice L5 (campus), Optional Knowledge module: Dual Diagnosis L5,  and Deputy for Political Extremism L6 (campus).
