Personal profile

I qualified as a dental surgeon (BDS) in 2001 from Bristol Dental School. On completion of my vocational training year, I remained working in general dental practice in both the NHS and private sectors. My career then developed within the community dental service where I worked extensively with special needs patients, dental phobics and children within community based and hospital based settings. This job role sparked my interest in treating patients with medical and physical complications.

I became a dental tutor at UPDA in 2006 where I have taken on various roles as the school has developed. I gained my PGCert LTHE and am a fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

I have particular interests in the treatment of patients with medical complications, minimal intervention dentistry and prevention. I enjoy paediatric dentistry where trust and communication is tested to the full, alongside clinical skill- I hope that I can transfer my enthusiasm in these areas to the students that I work with.

Research Interests

I gained a ‘Prevention in practice’ award in 2002 for a project completed on medical emergencies within the dental practice. An article based on this project was published in ‘The Dentist’ in 2003.
