Personal profile

Summary

I am a Senior lecturer and Course leader of BA Fashion Marketing, a 4-year program run jointly by the Faculty of Business and Law and Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries in University of Portsmouth. I teach fundamentals of fashion marketing—from branding and visualisation to consumer behaviour—and its global significance, especially in sustainable and ethical fashion.

As a  Fellow of Higher Education Academy I have developed my teaching philosophy, “learning by doing” which is based on student centred learning approach which I have developed using Kolb's Experiential Learning Theory (Kolb, 1984) and in terms of planning and design, ‘constructive alignment’ (Biggs, 1996) and to assess the outcomes, I use the “Structure of the Observed Learning Outcome” (SOLO Taxonomy) (Biggs & Kollis,1982). In addition, some of it is also shaped by feedback or as I had to adapt to demonstrate my progression between courses, programmes, or institutions.  As a Course Leader I engaged in opportunities to expand my understanding and contribution to the university regulatory processes.  I actively participate in initiatives to improve university KPI’s including those aligned with differential attainment, and a new course development.   I am highly adaptable and a willing contributor to the ever-changing nature of Fashion Design education and through leading on Annual Evaluation and NSS actions, clearly understanding the demands on creative arts education. Previous Positive student feedback for NSS 2022/23 & 2023/24 along with a good score of 80% and above student satisfaction demonstrates my ability.

I am keen to lead and co-supervise PhD, MPhil & M Res research students and have specific interests in supervising projects that explore fields of Fashion Design and Diverse Technologies such as motion capture & imaging to have an sustainable impact on outcomes.

Research Interests

My research interests are Motion Capture Technology’s (MOCAP), associated creative technologies and their potential to transform both the methods of creating fashion design and the pattern cutting to explore sustainable fashion design. I am keen to use an experimental design approach of two-dimensional and/or three-dimensional (2D/3D) practice, theoretical framework and reflect on my personal design processes, my experience within the fashion design industry and academia. I am keen to supervise and co-supervise a cohort of Ph.D., M.Phil. and M.Res. students who wish to conduct research into the use of creative and diverse technologies in Fashion Design.
