Summary

I am a Senior Research Associate in the Centre for Enzyme Innovation (CEI) within the school of Biological Sciences at the University of Portsmouth. My work at the CEI is focussed on clarify the rules governing the natural engineering of biological circuits. To accomplish this, the team will engineer de novo designed proteins that are capable of transferring electrons, energy, & protons with biology as an inspiration. By identifying the rules at play, the team hopes to exploit the exceptional properties observed in natures electron and energy conducting machinery. This position is supported by the BBSRC Grant BB/W003449/1.

Biography

I graduated with a BSc in Chemistry (Highest Honors) from Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon, Mexico, in 2013, and continued in the School of Chemistry to completed my MSc and PhD under the supervision of Professor Victor Jimenez, graduating in 2018. I joined Professor Ramon Vilar and Professor Marina Kuimova groups at the Molecular Science Research Hub at Imperial College London in 2019 as a Posdoctoral Research Associate in chemical synthesis, optical spectroscopy and imaging where I worked on the synthesis of platinum-based probes and application of fluorescence microscopy techniques to visualise G-quadruplex DNA. I joined the University of Portsmouth in 2023 as a Senior Research Associate in the Centre for Enzyme Innovation.
