Biography
I am a Reader in Structural Composites. I obtained my PhD in the area of computational mechanics of composite structures from the University of Birmingham, UK in 1997. As a Research Associate, I worked with the Aeronautics Department of Imperial College London, from 1997 to 2000. In late 2000, I became a Research Fellow with the School of Engineering Science at the University of Southampton. I joined the Aerospace Engineering Department of University of Bristol in early 2004. At the end of 2006, I was appointed Senior Lecturer by the University of Portsmouth and promoted to Reader in 2016.
I have more than 15 years of research experience in composites, and I've published over 80 internationally refereed journal and conference papers and a book chapter. My research was funded or awarded by Innovate UK and several leading UK industrial companies. I am a member of the European Mechanics Society, a member of the research centre of the Defence Science and Technique Laboratory, and a member of the National Network Group for Composites in Construction. I'm also an active member of scientific committee of International Conferences on Mechanics of Composites, and Composite Structures.
Research Interests
My research areas include computational damage mechanics and its application in aerospace, civil, mechanical, maritime, automotive engineering and the renewable energy industry; design, simulation and test of complex fibre composite structures; composite panel systems in construction; sandwich composite panels in bridge structures; fracture toughness and fatigue strength of composites; composite-adhesive repairing technology; bio-inspired design for improving damage resilience of composites; extended cohesive damage element method in simulation of multi-crack propagation; extended digital image correlation method to detect multiscale damage in engineering materials; 3D printing bio-mimicked composites; Prediction of natural and engineering slope failure propagation, etc.
