Personal profile

Summary

I am a Principal Lecturer at Portsmouth Law School, with responsibility for CILEx development and accreditation. I am a property lawyer, and my research focuses on the law of succession.

Biography

I studied Philosophy at Pembroke College, Cambridge before taking the CPE and the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law, York. I qualified as a solicitor in 1998, and specialised in commercial property.  I taught on the LLB, the Post-Graduate Diploma in Law and the Legal Practice Course at Manchester Metropolitan University before joining the University of Portsmouth as a Senior Lecturer in 2013.

Research Interests

I am interested in all aspects of property law, in particular the interaction between equity and land law.  My current research focuses on the law of succession.  I have researched issues relating to testamentary capacity, and have recently carried out research into the operation of dispensing powers in other common law jurisdictions.  I am currently a member of the Law Society's Wills & Equity Committee.

Teaching Responsibilities

I teach land law, equity & trusts and the law of succession, in addition to the conveyancing part of the CILEx module.   I have also taught family law in the past, and have extensive experience of teaching on post-graduate professional law courses.
