Summary
Kagari joined the University of Portsmouth in 2022. She completed her BA and MA in Japan, followed by an MSc in the Psychology of Music at the University of Keele. Her PhD explored levels of collaborative creativity in young children. Prior to moving to Portsmouth, she was Senior Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Huddersfield from 2016 to 2022, She also taught Psychology and Social Research Methods in universities in UK and Japan.
Kagari currently teaches Research Methods as well as Developmental Psychology, and is Visiting Professor at Tokyo College of Music, Japan. She has supervised students through to completion at MRes/MSc and PhD level and is interested in supervising students in any of her related areas of interest.
Her interests include the development of gender stereotypes in young children, music and wellbeing – with a focus on dementia, developmental psychology of the arts, and cultural influences on creativity. Kagari is a Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol) and Associate Fellow (AFBPsS) at the British Psychological Society and a member of the Japanese Psychological Association. She is also Fellow of Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
