Personal profile
Summary
I graduated from Cranfield University in 1998 with a BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography. After working in the NHS for seven years I moved into my first post in education with City, University of London. Whilst at City, I was heavily involved with course delivery for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in radiography and biomedical engineering; whilst also being admissions tutor for radiography courses. During my time at City I managed to find time to complete a PgDipEd (City, University of London) and MSc in Medical Imaging (Kingston & St. George’s, University of London).
In January 2016 I joined the University of Portsmouth and have been the admissions tutor (2017-2018 and 2019-2022) and course lead (2018-2023) for the Diagnostic Radiography & Medical Imaging course. From September 2022 until August 2024, I commenced a seconded interim role as the Associate Head [Academic] for the School of Health and Care Professions. This role guided the development and quality of academic provision, whilst providing academic leadership at strategic and operational levels, for programme provision.
I currently hold Senior Fellowship with AdvancedHE and I am an associate fellow of the City St. George's Research in Radiography, Radiotherapy and Radiology Group (CRRAG). I currently serve as an external examiner for Diagnostic Radiography provision at the University of Leeds and the University of Worcester, and previously held this role at St. George’s, University of London (2020–2025). Additionally, I am also involved with NCFE Level 3 validation activities and review proposed manuscripts for the journal Radiography.
My teaching interests include digital imaging and image enhancement, adaptation of technique, and medical imaging technology. I have authored two book chapters with respect to digital receptors and image enhancement in diagnostic radiography. I am also currently involved in a working group affiliated with CRAGG that is investigating the perceived impact Artificial Intelligence may have on the role, career and professional identity of radiographers in the UK and across Europe.
