Personal profile

Summary

I am a Teaching Fellow in the Accounting and Financial Management subject group. My areas of expertise are accounting, management accounting and general business practice. I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers.

Parallel to my teaching career at the University, I am Managing Director of my own business, Addo Accounting, which I established in 2014. I have extensive practical accounting and business experience, gained across a number of different sectors, in small businesses and large organisations such as the NHS.

Having studied for my first degree and my MBA at the University of Portsmouth, I am pleased to have become a member of the teaching staff here so that I can pass on my accounting and business knowledge.

Biography

I joined the University in 2014, having begun lecturing part time when I started my own business, Addo Accounting Ltd.

Prior to this I worked in various sectors including manufacturing, retail, services, import and export, and local government, in roles such as Finance Manager, Management Accountant and Regional Accountant.

After leaving school I continued to study alongside my work, attending Chichester College for my Association of Accounting Technicians qualification. I continued my studying with Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and after started my business the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers.

I gained my BA (Hons) Business Administration at Portsmouth in 2006, followed by my MBA in 2008. My dissertations examined Small business startups (undergrad) and Corporate Social Responsibility in Hampshire small businesses (MBA).

Research Interests

I am interested in how small businesses/enterprises start & operate and I am considering PhD or Doctor of Business Administration research/studies in this area in the future.

Teaching Responsibilities

As well as the finance elements of our MBA and degree apprenticeship courses, I teach on the Management Accounting and Business Analysis and Decision Making modules for second-year undergraduates. The latter module provides an excellent insight into running a business.

In the course of my teaching I enjoy introducing students to the latest digital accounting tools, such as the Xero software that I use in my own business.

Media Availability

I am happy to take calls and emails from the media on my areas of expertise, and I am aware of the need to respond to journalists in a timely manner. Please contact me at lee.scott@port.ac.uk in the first instance.
