Personal profile

I am a Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Financial Management. I am a qualified Chartered Management Accountant and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. I am also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

I have extensive banking and accounting sector experience, including 10 years working internationally with Barclays.

I am course leader for our business school’s collaborative programme of accounting courses at the Kaplan Higher Education Institute in Singapore, which is an example of successful transnational education. I have been pleased to be able to develop the programme’s offer to students.

I am also the faculty lead for our accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), which once gained will place us amongst the top institutions globally for business degrees.

I am on the editorial board of the Journal for Applied Learning and Teaching and I am a member of the board of governors at Highbury College, Portsmouth.

I enjoy running in my leisure time.

I joined the University of Portsmouth in 2009, having begun working in higher education in 2007.

I spent the earlier part of my career in banking and accounting for 12 years. I worked for Barclays in corporate and retail banking in the UK and Kenya for 10 years before pursuing my management accounting qualification.

I was admissions tutor for undergraduate accounting and finance pathways at Portsmouth from 2009 until 2013. In 2015 I joined the University’s team for our collaborative programme with the Kaplan Higher Education Institute in Singapore. I progressed from the role of Moderator on 2 modules to overall course leader in 2016. I am responsible for managing curriculum enhancements, dealing with quality and compliance matters, staff development, and chairing assessment and examiner boards plus the Board of Studies and the Staff/Student Consultative Committee. I have introduced employability modules to further strengthen the vocational nature of the programme. We held a successful Kaplan Learning and Teaching Conference in 2019 involving students, academic and IT staff, and speakers from the accounting sector.

I became a governor of Highbury College, Portsmouth, in March 2020.
