Biography

I joined the University of Portsmouth as a Lecturer in 2013. Prior to joining the University, I completed my PhD at the University of Otago, New Zealand (2006 - 2010), worked as a Lecturer in Skill Acquisition and Coach Education (football) at the German Sport University Cologne, Germany (2010 - 2011) and completed a postdoctoral research position at the VU University Amsterdam, Netherlands (2011 - 2013). I have held visiting Professor positions at the University of Caen Normandy, France (2016) and the University of Rouen Normandy, France (2017).

Research Interests

My research interests are focused on the visual control of movement in natural environments and I have expertise in the use of mobile eye tracking technology. I am particularly interested in examining how perception and action are skilfully adapted to changing environmental demands across the lifespan. My research has been applied to different domains, including health and safety settings, anticipation and decision-making in sport, and training that aims to improve these facets of sport performance.
