Summary

Matthew is a Teaching Fellow in Portsmouth Law School. He is a unit coordinator on the Equity and Trusts unit, and the Art of Persuasion unit. He is also Level 6 Tutor and Student Voice Coordinator for the Law School.

He has a PhD from Lancaster University which focused on the role of fiduciary duties in English business law.

Biography

Matthew studied law at Hertford College, Oxford from 2006 to 2009. He completed the Bar Vocational Course at City Law School and was called to the bar (non-practising) in October 2010. He obtained a Masters Degree in International Business and Corporate Law from Lancaster University in 2012 and a PhD in the field of Commercial Equity in 2018. He has taught undergraduate and masters courses in Equity and Trusts, Company Law, Contract, Tort and Business Law and EMployment Law. His professional experience includes legal secretarial, drafting and compliance work in the private sector and in local government.

Teaching Responsibilities

In 2019/20 Matthew is a unit coordinator and is teaching on Equity and Trusts at Levels 5 and 6 and Art of Pesuasion at Level 4. He is also teaching on the Advocacy unit at Levels 5 and 6 and the Legal Project at Level 6. At Masters level he is teaching Corporate Law and Governance and Corporate Secretarial Practise and Strategy.

Research Interests

Matthew has a PhD from Lancaster Unviersity focusing on the use of fiduciary duties in UK law, especially in relation to the regulation of business, and continues to research in the field of Equtiy and Trusts.
