Biography

Dr Mohammed Ibrahim Shire specialises in the increasingly complex world of risk and security and is multidisciplinary by training. His research agenda takes a broad interdisciplinary approach to terrorism and political violence in Africa and crosscuts aspects of criminology, political science, peace and conflict studies, and computer science. After completing his PhD at Loughborough University, Mohammed worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at Griffith University’s Centre for Social and Cultural Research in Australia, where he implemented several ethnographic projects in collaboration with multiple industrial and government stakeholders. Mohammed joined the University of Portsmouth in November 2019.

His works have been published in Terrorism and Political Violence, Studies in Conflict & Terrorism, Small Wars & Insurgencies, Journal of Eastern African Studies, and several other journals.

Mohammed is also the founder of Somali Faces, an award-winning storytelling organisation that raises awareness for social justice in Somalia.
