Nev Pushparajah

I began working at the University as a teaching Fellow in 2021, becoming a Senior Teaching Fellow in 2022, and in 2023 becoming the couse leader for the Entrepreneurship and Business degree.

I became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2023. In 2021 I completed an MBA in Strategic Leadership at the University, gaining a Distinction, with my work-based learning project focussing on the role artificial intelligence could play at Portsmouth City Council.

I originally trained as a Certified Accountant whilst working at MacIntyre Hudson, a medium-sized accountancy firm between 1994 and 1996. This gave me valuable experience of working with a wide range of clients in key areas such as accounts preparation, auditing, taxation, and payroll. During this time I gained the professional qualifications of the ACCA.

After my accounting training and practice I worked in a number of different roles including a Systems Accountant, leading a team at Tullett Prebon, a global financial services company. This role required me to use Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (UK GAAP, US GAAP and other local GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards to prepare consolidated financial statements and budgets for the group. My work included handling chart of accounts updates, writing group reports, and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation.. The role involved working with colleagues internationally, including USA, Singapore and Australia. It also gave me a real insight into the experience of being audited instead of being the auditor!

I also have over 30 years experience of working in retail, aerospace, further education and local government and the lessons learned from that also very much inform my teaching to both undergraduates and post-graduates.

I currently coordinate the Strategic Management module for Level 6 undergraduate students.

I am also a Personal Tutor for undergraduate and post-graduate students providing pastoral support and guiding on future employability opportunities.
