Nigel L. Williams, PMP is a Professor in Responsible Project and Systems Management and is the Associate Dean for Research and Innovation at the Faculty of Business and Law
Before joining academia, I worked for 15 years as a Manager and Business Consultant for enterprises in the Caribbean Region. I hold a PhD in Engineering from the University of Cambridge. I also hold a BSc in Mechanical Engineering and an MSc in Marketing from the University of the West Indies. Since joining academia, I have linked education, research and professional practice. My research has utilised systems approaches to examine the evolution of organisational and inter-organisational capabilities in a variety of contexts, including projects and networks. This work has underpinned knowledge exchange, innovation and impact activities in the area of operational efficiency, organisational capability development and organisational adaptation to changing contexts.
More recently, I have worked to develop the area of Responsible Project Management (ResponsiblePM.com). The RPM team works with academia (UK, Europe and Asia), Project industry associations (APM & PMI), professional societies (the UK Systems Societies) and NGOs (Association for Sustainability Practitioners) to help the profession develop Project Managers that meet societal obligations . We have engaged in a collaborative program of education, research and public engagement in the form of the Responsible PM Forum, the development of a guide to Responsible Project Management, a Manifesto and the Research Handbook of Responsible Project Management that has encouraged researchers and practitioners to incorporate sustainability into their current practice. This initiative has been a success an ongoing number of collaborative events along with the adoption of RPM at universities in North America, Europe and Asia. RPM has also supported the delivery of GCRF and Innovate UK funded projects. I am also a board member of the Project Management Institute UK Chapter (2023-2025) responsible for Research and Academic outreach.
I support delivery of the Project and Systems Investigations unit on the MSc in Project Management
