My research is concerned with theoretical issues of time and ecology in contemporary performance and art practices. I have written on artists such as Tehching Hsieh, Janez Janša, Janez Janša, Janez Janša, Every House Has a Door, Mladen Stilinović, David Nash and Mårten Spångberg, among others. My work is philosophical in method, considering theoretical and critical implications within the tradition of Continental Philosophy. To date, I have focused on historical philosophers such as Henri Bergson and contemporary thinkers such as Timothy Morton.
I conduct practice research in addition to written work, making performances, installations and curates outputs of creative investigation. I am the founder of the Practice Gallery, UK's first gallery of practice research, which is now a central feature of Theatre and Performance Research Association's annual conference.
I am Senior Lecturer in the school of Art, Design and Performance at University of Portsmouth. I am a researcher, artist and writer working mostly in performance but also across dance, theatre and visual art. My solo and collaborative performances have been shown in UK, USA and Europe. My writing has been published in journals such as Performance Research, Maska, Contemporary Theatre Review and Choreographic Practices.
I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I was previously Teaching Fellow in the Department of Drama, Theatre and Dance at Royal Holloway, University of London where I also received my PhD on time-specificity of performance. I have MA with Distinction in Practising Theatre and Performance from Aberystwyth University and a BFA Cum Laude in Theatre Arts from Boston University.
