Personal profile


I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the School of Mathematics and Physics, and a member of the intelligent transport research cluster at the University of Portsmouth. I have PhD and MSC degrees in Transportation Engineering and a BSc degree in Civil Engineering.

I have around 12 years of academic and engineering experience in 4 countries (Iran, Turkey, Slovenia, and the UK). I have collaborated in interdisciplinary research and technical projects with academic/business partners in the UK and worldwide. 

I have been also involved in many local traffic and transportation projects such as conventional and smart junction design, traffic impact studies, and transportation master plan studies. I was acting as a management committee member from Slovenia, in EU COST Action CA16222: Wider Impacts and Scenario Evaluation of Autonomous and Connected Transport.

Since 2021, I have been leading the "Travel Behaviour Change Modelling" workstream for the Solent FTZ Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) project which is funded by the UK Department for Transport (DfT).

Research Interests

Traffic Engineering:

  • Microscopic and mesoscopic traffic simulation,
  • Public transport priority methods (bus lane, transit signal priority)
  • Conventional and smart junction design (adaptive signal control)
  • Traffic impact studies

Transport planning and modelling:

  • Macroscopic transport network modelling
  • Travel behaviour modelling using statistical and econometric models (discrete choice modelling considering observed and unobserved heterogeneity)
  • Travel behaviour change monitoring and evaluation using quantitative and qualitative methods
  • Evaluating Individuals' attitudes towards emerging transportation systems:
    • Mobility as a Service (MaaS)
    • Shared Mobility Modes: bike-sharing, scooter-sharing, car-sharing, carpooling
    • Autonomous and Connected Vehicles
    • Demand Responsive Transit (DRT)
  • Demand Modelling and Market Analysis: Willingness to Pay and Market Share analysis for new products/services
