Personal profile

Summary

My main role is as the Module Coordinator for the final year module, the Business Consultancy Project. Every year, we have large numbers of  student teams working with external organisations, on a business challenge that clients want solving. In 2019, we had 140 students from 39 nationalities, in 36 teams. Teaching students how to develop the skills of consultancy and problem solving skills is very rewarding. I also teach on two other undergraduate modules.

My first career was being a Royal Navy officer for 14 years where I learned to lead and manage teams. I served in a variety of ships and specialised as a Warfare Officer. I have been a business consultant and facilitator for more than 20 years, working across several sectors, including Defence, tackling complex innovation and capability development challenges. I love facilitating individuals and groups to be more creative.

I have been an Associate Lecturer with the Open University for many years, and my experience has spanned the areas of Strategy, Creativity and Innovation, and Leadership.  I joined Portsmouth University a few years ago, and work here part-time, leaving time for Open University teaching and other consultancy work.  I gained my degree in Systems and Management at City University, and my MBA from the Open University.
