Mr
Accepting PhD Students
I am an architect and a Principal Lecturer (Learning and Teaching) at the Portsmouth School of Architecture. My Ph.D., from the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, National Technical University of Athens, focussed on the representation of the politics of urban gentrification in horror films and the notion of fear in cities. He has worked on issues of gender and sexuality in urban space. He teaches architecture, interior design, and LGBT theories on urban space at the University of Portsmouth and the National Technical University of Athens. He has worked as a freelance architect on projects of different scales in various countries, as well as an editor in magazines and set designer.
The main research interest derives from my Ph.D. and explores visual culture and the way it informs and transforms urban and spatial design. The work focuses on the way social issues should inform spatial design. My research activity during the last years expanded also in other strands. One strand focused on sexuality and gender theories on urban space, mainly investigating the ways LGBT subjects appropriate space. The work looks into the procuction of space based on gender and sexuality, while also discusses the perception of the body and the space through dating applications. Additionally, in collaboration with the psychologist Dr Dia Soilemezi we have epxlored the meaning of home for people with dementia and their caregivers, analysing qualitative data. I have been part of the scientific committees of conferences (International Critical Geography Conference 2019 and Gender and Education Conference 2019). Finally, I am a co-investigator at the Interreg 2 Seas project Plasticity: Resourcing Plastics from the City, focusing at the organisation of urban platforms as a community participation tool and the development of new business models around the reuse of plastic.
