Personal profile

Biography

I am a senior lecturer and co-ordinate Global Health and Social Care Unit at the university. I am also a research advisor of the Research Design Services (RDS) South Central, a collaborative NIHR programme with University of Oxford and University of Southampton.

I hold a PhD degree in Demography from the Australian National University (ANU), Canberra under the prestigious AusAID scholarship.

I earlier worked as a Professor and Head of Manpower Statistics at the Indian National Planning Commission’s Institute of Applied Manpower Research (IAMR), New Delhi. I also worked for the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), New Delhi and Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad.

My current area of interest is post-transitional fertility in developing countries currently supported by ESRC Seminar Series (With Chris Wilson, Oxford University and I.S. Rajan, Centre for Development Studies). I am also interested in family planning (completed two projects from DFID), health inequalities (ESRC-Pathfinder), and Impact of low fertility on women’s well-being (British Academy Research Development Award). With Dr Liz Twigg I am currently working with colleagues from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai and International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai on a low fertility in India supported by the Research Development Fund.

As a research advisor I support UK NHS clinicians and social care professional on a wide range of clinical and social care topics.
