Summary

My PhD research is looking at phosphorus removal from waste water via reactive media. Effluents from wastewater treatment plants can contribute to high concentrations of phosphorus in the environment, which can cause eutrophication issues. As lower phosphorus discharge regulations for wastewater treatment sites are expected, a need for cheap, more efficient and sustainable technologies arises. The research aims to assess phosphorus removal via reactive media and their implementation in a full-scale filter bed application. The project is in cooperation with Southern Water, which gives me the opportunity to run the experiments on a real waste water treatment site at the Innovation Hub in Petersfield.
