Personal profile

Summary

I hold a PhD in Discourse Analysis and Gender from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom, in addition to a first Master’s degree in English Language and Literature and a second Master’s in Applied Linguistics and TESOL from the University of Portsmouth.

My doctoral research, informed by Critical Discourse Analysis, as well as feminist and Bakhtinian theoretical frameworks, explored how language functions as a tool to construct and sustain gender roles within the socio-cultural contexts of late 19th and early 20th century Eastern and Western societies.

I have extensive experience teaching and supervising at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the fields of linguistics, gender, communication, management and cultural studies. At the University of Portsmouth, I teach and supervise across a broad range of modules in TESOL and Applied Linguistics—particularly Second Language Acquisition—as well as in communication, business and cultural studies at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I have also published widely in these areas.

My current research is situated within the disciplines of applied linguistics and discourse analysis, with a sustained focus on the intersections of language, gender, and migration.
