My known name is Mike Shengbo Wang, and my correspondence email is mike.wang@port.ac.uk but unfortunately I cannot alter these display fields on this page myself.

I am part of the Large-Scale Structure research group at the Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation (ICG), supervised by Prof Robert CrittendenProf Will PercivalDr Santiago Avila and Dr Davide Bianchi. I am the organiser of the Large-Scale Structure (incl. Weak Lensing) group meetings at the Institute. Externally I am a member in both the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument Collaboration (DESI) and the Euclid Consortium (Euclid).

My research interests are in large-scale structure cosmology, focusing on the ultra-large scale clustering of galaxies and cosmological inference from such observations through modern galaxy surveys.

Research Interests

My broad interests are in large-scale structure cosmology, including but not limited to:

  • primordial non-Gaussianity—revealing initial conditions of structure formation and early-Universe dynamics through ulta-large scale galaxy clustering;
  • relativistic effects—probing the behaviour of gravitation on cosmological scales through ultra-large scale galaxy clustering;
  • cosmological inference—accurate mathematical–statistical techniques to extract information from cosmic random fields.


Prior to my PhD, I read the Mathematical Tripos at Clare College, University of Cambridge, and graduated in 2017 with Distinction in MMath and 1st Class Honours in BA.

I specialised in theoretical physics in the Part III Tripos, and wrote my essay Primordial Gravitational Waves from Cosmic Inflation under the guidance of Prof Anthony Challinor.

Teaching Responsibilities

I help run the computational physics course workshop in Python. I also mark the coursework/exams for undergradaute mathematics modules.
